HERENCIA

Many of the waste products we generate will remain on Earth long after we are gone. In this sense, we could say they represent a kind of toxic legacy we leave for those who come after us. This project, developed at Elisava in collaboration with Ainoa Pubill, María Rey, and Clara Vituri, aimed to visualize this concept through an ephemeral installation in Sabadell.

We displayed four different items (an apple, a lighter, a can, and a sanitary pad) alongside fictional family trees that depicted the approximate generations that would witness each waste item during its decomposition process: a single generation for the apple (2 months to decompose), 4 generations for the lighter (100 years), 10 generations for the can (250 years), and 20 generations for the sanitary pad (500 years).

In total, 500 passport photos with respective labels represented the hypothetical profiles of those who might inherit this toxic legacy. An accompanying printed publication detailed the project, along with a video available at the end of this page.
